What are acoustics?

For purposes of this discussion, acoustics are what happens to sound from the time it leaves the source until it reaches your ear. Because of different distances from the source, plus the surfaces that reflect the sound, it arrives at different intervals. This effect is most often called echo, or reverberation.

How do I know I have a problem

The most obvious test is in your day to day routine. You may find that conversation across the room is sometimes difficult to understand. When listening to music or watching television, clarity suffers as you increase the volume. Ordinary sounds become oppressive. In essence, you feel like you live in an echo chamber.

What solutions exist for this problem?

Until now, acoustic solutions were generally open cell acoustical foam, or acoustic panels available only on large commercial projects. You have seen these products in churches, schools, banks, airports, theaters, radio stations and many other places. Most large common areas have some kind of sound reduction treatment. Acoustic Innovations has taken these technologies and adapted them to the home.

How will this make our audio and video sound better?

Sound engineers spend countless hours making music and voice recordings sound 'perfect'. When the music is reproduced on an audio system, the room 'colors' the sound due to reflection and absorption. Thus, a room with tile floors, high walls and lots of glass will sound completely different from another room with the same electronics, but different physical characteristics. Our products equalize the effects these surfaces have on the sound.

What are the industry professionals saying?

Until very recently, only audiophiles were concerned with better sounding environments. Through the evolution of recorded music, from 78 rpm records to 33 1/3 stereo, to quadraphonic sound, compact cassette, and now CD's, our ear is becoming more discriminating. As audio and video continue to integrate, standards are being established. Most competent audio dealers will recommend that you 'tune your room'. Through our sophisticated technologies, we are at the cutting edge of cost effective interior room dynamics.
